Smells can be highly subjective as can potency. But pure prickly pear seed oil is generally perceived as quite a strong, potent smell, that is very ‘nutty’. However, one should not be put off by the smell. While many can find it a very appealing smell, those who may not care for the strong scent can also enjoy the magnificent benefits this miracle oil has to offer. As a lightweight oil it leaves no ‘nutty’ smell on the skin once applied. It sinks readily into the skin leaving it plump and supple, with no residue and no after-smell.

Indeed, you are right, many falsely claim that their prickly pear seed oil is pure when it is often diluted with lower quality products. 100% pure prickly pear seed oil is neither floral nor odourless. Usually considered quite potent, it should have a ‘nutty’ smell. Often, impure prickly pear seed oil may not have a very strong nutty smell, and almost smell like it is a bit off. Some even compare the nutty smells of argan and prickly pear seed oil to popcorn! So this is one way to try and detect whether you are buying the ‘real thing’. In addition, pure prickly pear seed oil has a relatively darker colour (for example when compared to argan oil). Some may even compare it to a light green colour in nature. In contrast, diluted prickly pear seed oil has a very diluted almost clear colour (depending on the level of dilution). And of course, the effectiveness of prickly pear seed oil on the skin is also a giveaway. Nothing can compare to applying 100% pure undiluted prickly pear seed oil or argan oil!
